Rus Aviation deepens commitment to the UN’s WFP through donations and logistical support
UAE based air cargo services provider steps up donations and use of plane fleet to help alleviate hunger in AfricaDubai, March 12, 2013: Rus Aviation, the UAE based air cargo services provider that falls under the umbrella of Al Aroud group, has extended its efforts to play a global role in offering humanitarian support and alleviating world hunger by offering financial and logistical support for the UN-run World Food Programme (WFP) Aviation.Positioned as a permanent regular and financial supporter to the World Food Programme, RUS Aviation is donating USD 70,000 to WFP Aviation in support of hunger alleviation programmes within the African continent.Rus Aviation is also putting its fleet of planes to use for good cause, supporting the WFP by performing humanitarian flights to Africa. It is also conducting safety training programmes for those involved in the delivery of food supplies, thereby supporting the WFP worldwide safety promotion programme.Rus Aviation considers itself a responsible member of the global community, and is a permanent supporter of the World Food Programme, which seeks to combat global hunger through a number of initiatives such as the School Meals Programme, and the Purchase for Project scheme. Not only do we offer regular financial donations but also try and facilitate the WFP by sharing our expertise in aerial safety and offering them use of our planes for humanitarian missions, said Bareh Al Aroud, Deputy General Manager of Rus Aviation.For Rus Aviation, ardent participation in global hunger alleviation programmes is a matter of the highest priority, and our way of giving back to the global community that we are part of, Al Aroud added.Rus Aviation, established in Sharjah in 1999, has recently sponsored the 4th Global Humanitarian Aviation Conference. One of the key objects of the conference was raising awareness throughout the world of the services the World Food Programme provides through its aviation arm; the United Nations Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS). UNHAS transports employees from non-governmental organizations (NGOs), international agencies, donors and media as well as food assistance and essential commodities.As a permanent supporter of the WFP, we offer the programme regular financial and logistical support, and are very pleased to partner with them in their efforts.
